This July 2023, Father Michael McGivney Grade 12 student– Banujan Kulainthiran–represented Team Canada at the U18 and U23 North American, Central American & Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Track and Field Competition in Costa Rica. Banujan competed on Friday July 21st, in Men’s Triple Jump, and jumped 14.92 meters, to earn second place and the silver medal on this international podium.
Banujan was also asked to run the 4x100m relay for Team Canada (due to an injured teammate) and pushed through nerves in order to support his fellow team Canada athletes and represent Canada in a second event on an international scale. Banujan will also be competing in U18 Nationals in Quebec later this summer to wrap up his season before the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
All who have had the opportunity to coach or teach Banujan can easily agree that what is most impressive and unique about Banujan is his humility. He is quiet, yet self-assured and calm in situations when others may crumble under pressure. He is gracious in accepting praise, and never brags or lets on how immensely talented he is when he speaks to you. He coaches his teammates, helping each one with their technique and offers praise and encouragement to everyone on the team. FMM coaches (Catherine Fujiwara, Allan Ambida, Nic Chung and Katrina Rocca), staff and students are all so proud of Banujan and his accomplishments.
